Social media users suffer most when their friends often ridicule them by circulating embarrassing personal images and videos on the Internet in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner, according to a study.
Cyberbullying or cyber harassment is a common thing in this age of social media and most of the time acquaintances are taking the crucial part to make their friends cyber victim. The online study, conducted by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence says, around half of the victims feel extremely distressed when their friends post their embarrassing personal photos or video on social media.
Generally friends of the victims are using mobile phone to post instant images, messages to defame or humiliate or harm social statuses of the victim, said the study where 1,881 German schoolchildren took part.
“Cyberbullying is not a trivial matter,” said Peter Sitzer of Bielefeld University.
“Our findings underline that cyberbullying is not a trivial matter but a serious problem which demands preventive countermeasures,” added Sitzer.
