From now Indian Facebook users from mobile phones will be able to access the most celebrated social networking site in eight different languages, said Facebook in a statement.
In the statement Kevin D’Souza, Facebook’s Country Growth Manager, said
“With over 50 million people in India on Facebook, we want to make sure that everyone has a great Facebook mobile experience regardless of the device that they choose to use.”
Earlier, Facebook account holders could access the site only in English.
But now the people of India, the second largest market for the Facebook after the USA, will be able to access the site by using three national languages Hindi, Malay and Vietnamese. Moreover, Facebook has included seven local Indian languages Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi and Marathi.
“This application will bring the same in-depth Facebook mobile experience, previously available in English, in Hindi to over 50 million Facebook users in India. The other seven local Indian languages will be rolled out in phases over the next few weeks,” added Facebook.
