Bluetooth device is easy to exploit and it put users at risk, says Finnish data security firm Codenomicon.
Bluetooth radio tech is used to connect mobiles and other portable devices to their accessories and the security issue has not been measured a severe problem.
Codenomicon, which develops robustness-testing tools, however, said in a study that the private company found grave problems in almost all Bluetooth-enabled car-kits it tested recently as a part of its research.
It says the lucrative Bluetooth car-kits permit users to talk hands-free while drive. However, defective security may provide criminals access to data on users’ mobiles. Consequently, hackers can lead to spoil to the automobiles electronic system and put drivers’ security at risk.
The company’s technology chief Ari Takanen thinks, deciding which device is more secure is too much complicated. As he said, “Quality of the software is rarely visible to consumers.”
The problems are in the implementation. “Coders make human mistakes,” he added.
However, Bluetooth industry lobby Bluetooth SIG’s executive director Mike Foley thinks the technology is just safe, saying,
“One of the reasons these members pick Bluetooth wireless technology is because of the strong security Bluetooth technology can provide through effective implementations by the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) who build these products.”
